Joshua Kimmich has stated Bayern Munich’s ambition is to win a historic treble in the 2026-27 season, responding affirmatively when asked about the possibility by BILD. The declaration comes as Bayern prepare for a period of transition following the departures of key players Leon Goretzka, Raphael Guerreiro, and Nicolas Vollstad.
Kimmich acknowledged the need for adjustments within the squad, emphasizing the importance of effectively replacing the outgoing players. He highlighted that maintaining success requires continual effort and improvement, framing the upcoming season as a challenge to build upon recent achievements. Bayern finished the 2023-24 Bundesliga season as champions, but were eliminated from the Champions League in the semi-finals by Real Madrid.
The midfielder’s comments suggest a clear expectation of competing for the highest honors across all three major competitions: the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and the Champions League. Bayern have previously achieved the treble in 2013 and 2020, and Kimmich’s confidence indicates a belief that they can replicate that success.
Beyond club football, Kimmich also discussed the upcoming 2026 World Cup and expressed his delight at the return of Manuel Neuer to the Germany national team. Having played alongside Neuer for eleven years, Kimmich emphasized the security and quality the veteran goalkeeper brings to the squad. He also joked about the responsibility Neuer now has to perform, acknowledging he will be captaining Neuer for the first time.
Neuer’s return is considered a significant boost for Germany’s prospects in the tournament, after a disappointing showing at the 2022 World Cup. Kimmich’s leadership role alongside Neuer is expected to be crucial as Germany aim to rebuild and compete at the highest level. The pair’s experience and established partnership will likely form the foundation of the national team’s defense.
Kimmich himself has become a mainstay in both the Bayern Munich and Germany midfields, known for his versatility, passing range, and tactical intelligence. His commitment to both club and country underscores his importance as a key player for both teams.
