Presnel Kimpembe has signed a contract with Al-Kharitiyath, a club in the second tier of Qatari football, the club confirmed on Sunday. The 30-year-old defender joins the club after a spell with Qatar SC, which he joined in September 2023. The move comes after reports on July 22nd indicated Kimpembe was set to join Al-Kharitiyath.
Kimpembe’s transfer marks a new chapter for the 2018 World Cup winner, following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain. He struggled for consistent playing time at PSG in recent seasons, hampered by a serious Achilles tendon injury. Last season, Kimpembe made 11 appearances across all competitions, exceeding his total from the previous two campaigns with PSG combined, where he featured in just five matches.
The defender will reunite with a familiar face at Al-Kharitiyath in Kaïs Najeh, a left-back who also came through the PSG academy. Both players will hope to play a key role for their new club as they aim for promotion to the Qatar Stars League. Kimpembe’s move to Qatar represents a significant shift in his career, as he seeks regular football and a fresh start after injury setbacks.
Kimpembe rose through the ranks at PSG, becoming a mainstay in the team’s defense for several years.
