Antonin Kinsky is expected to stay at Tottenham Hotspur this summer, though his position as the club’s starting goalkeeper is now in doubt, according to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs. The news comes after a turbulent season for Spurs, which saw them narrowly avoid relegation and experience a brief, unsuccessful managerial spell under Igor Tudor.
Kinsky’s future at the club appeared uncertain following a particularly poor performance in Tottenham’s 5-2 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid, where he was substituted after just 17 minutes due to a series of errors. However, the Czech goalkeeper rediscovered his form during the latter stages of the Premier League season, playing a key role in Tottenham securing their top-flight status.
Speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Jacobs stated that Tottenham still have faith in Kinsky’s ability but are actively pursuing a new number one goalkeeper. Lucas Chevalier of Paris Saint-Germain has been identified as a potential target, having fallen out of favour at the French club. James Trafford of Burnley is also on Tottenham’s radar, though Newcastle United are currently considered the frontrunners for his signature.
TEAMtalk reports that Guglielmo Vicario is likely to leave Tottenham this summer, with Italian clubs Juventus and Napoli both expressing interest in the Italian shot-stopper. Enquiries have been made by both Serie A sides, suggesting a transfer is a distinct possibility. Tottenham are also considering Brighton & Hove Albion’s Bart Verbruggen, with manager Roberto De Zerbi keen to reunite with the Dutch goalkeeper, who he previously worked with at the Amex Stadium. Anatoliy Trubin is another goalkeeper being monitored by Spurs.
Despite Kinsky’s improved form, his previous inconsistencies suggest that bringing in another goalkeeper to compete for the starting spot would be a sensible move for Tottenham. The club will be hoping to build a more stable and reliable goalkeeping department ahead of the new season.
