Hervé Koffi’s loan spell at Angers has officially ended, the club announced on Wednesday. The Burkinabe goalkeeper arrived at Angers last summer from RC Lens on a loan deal without an option to buy. Koffi had seen limited playing time at Lens, featuring in only five Ligue 1 matches during the 2024-2025 season, prompting the move to Anjou.
At Angers, Koffi quickly established himself as a key player, making 30 appearances and conceding 36 goals. His performances were instrumental in helping Angers maintain their status in Ligue 1. The goalkeeper’s contributions were recognized by the club’s supporters, who voted him as their player of the season.
Koffi was also nominated for the UNFP Trophies, appearing among the top five goalkeepers shortlisted alongside Robin Risser of Lens, who ultimately won the award, as well as Dominik Greif (Lyon), Mike Penders (Strasbourg), and Brice Samba (Rennes). Angers released a statement praising Koffi’s “commitment,” “professionalism,” and “human qualities.” Koffi himself expressed his gratitude on social media, thanking the club and supporters for their support in achieving their shared goal of staying in Ligue 1.
Upon returning to RC Lens, Koffi, who is under contract until 2028, is not expected to remain with the club for the upcoming season, according to reports. Lens reportedly do not intend to integrate him into their first-team plans. Koffi is already attracting interest from multiple clubs, with at least three reportedly expressing their interest, though their identities remain undisclosed. Angers had already anticipated Koffi’s departure, securing the services of Anthony Lopes in mid-June. The 35-year-old Lopes, formerly of Nantes and Lyon, will be tasked with filling the void left by Koffi, who made a significant positive impact during his time at the club.
Koffi’s return to Lens presents a goalkeeping dilemma for the club, while his availability could spark competition among Ligue 1 sides seeking a reliable number one.
