Rasmus Kristensen is poised to rejoin FC Midtjylland from Eintracht Frankfurt in a transfer that will also see Danish winger Malik Pimpong move to the Bundesliga side, according to reports from Tipsbladet and Sky Germany. The deal represents a return to familiar surroundings for Kristensen after two seasons in Germany.
Frankfurt are expected to receive a transfer fee of approximately €6 million for the 26-year-old right-back. Kristensen initially joined Frankfurt in the summer of 2022 from Red Bull Salzburg, making 61 appearances across all competitions for the club. He was a regular starter during the 2022-23 season, but saw his playing time reduced in the most recent campaign.
As part of the agreement, 18-year-old winger Pimpong will head in the opposite direction. Eintracht Frankfurt will reportedly pay between €2.5 and €3 million to secure the services of the promising young Dane. Pimpong enjoyed a prolific season with FC Midtjylland’s youth team, scoring 24 goals in 31 appearances.
Pimpong has also demonstrated his goalscoring ability at the international level, having registered three goals and one assist in three games for the Denmark U19s. He is considered a highly-rated prospect within Danish football, known for his pace, dribbling skills, and finishing ability. This move offers him the opportunity to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
The transfer allows Kristensen to return to the club where he first made his name, having come through the Midtjylland academy and played a key role in their 2019-20 Danish Superliga title win before his move to Austria. For Frankfurt, the acquisition of Pimpong provides a long-term investment in a potentially exciting attacking talent, bolstering their options in wide areas.
