Juventus are set to complete the permanent signing of midfielder Giacomo Faticanti from Lecce for a fee of €1 million, the club confirmed. The 20-year-old will officially join the Bianconeri on July 13th and is expected to participate in the pre-season training camp under new manager Massimiliano Allegri.
Faticanti’s career began promisingly with Roma, where he made his senior debut at 18 years old in a Europa League match under Jose Mourinho. However, his progress stalled after failing to secure a consistent role in the capital, followed by challenging spells at Lecce and Ternana, where he experienced relegation to Serie C. Juventus, led by Head of Next Gen Area Claudio Chiellini, recognized his potential and initially took him on loan from Lecce on two separate occasions.
It was during his time in Turin that Faticanti rediscovered his form and confidence. His strong performances last season culminated in a recent debut for the Italian national team, having previously captained Italy’s Under 19 side to European Championship victory. He became the first player in Italy’s modern era to earn a senior cap while playing in the third tier of Italian football.
While a move to Serie B with Avellino was briefly considered, Juventus have moved swiftly to secure his services permanently. The club also has several other young players, including Licina, Puczka, Gil, Oboavwoduo and Pagnucco, who are expected to be tested during pre-season. Additionally, Corigliano and Giaretta, recent winners of the Under 17 European Championship, and Pipitò, a prolific goalscorer at the Under 16 level, will continue their development within the Juventus system. Faticanti’s journey serves as an example of perseverance within the Juventus youth setup, and his acquisition strengthens the club’s commitment to developing young Italian talent.
