Juventus are continuing discussions regarding a potential move for Alexander Sorloth, the Atletico Madrid forward, following the departure of Dusan Vlahovic. The club is seeking attacking reinforcements for new manager Luciano Spalletti, with Randal Kolo Muani also a primary target.
Sorloth, a 30-year-old Norwegian international, was previously linked with a move to Juventus in January, and the club has recently re-established contact with his representatives. Despite a strong goalscoring record of 44 goals in 107 appearances for Atletico Madrid, often as a substitute, he has not consistently secured a starting position under Diego Simeone, finding himself behind Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann in the pecking order.
Simeone has described Sorloth as a “hitman”, acknowledging his effectiveness, particularly when coming off the bench. He has averaged a goal every 140 minutes this past season, improving on a rate of one goal every 93 minutes in the previous campaign. While capable of playing alongside a partner, such as Erling Haaland for Norway, his limited role at Atletico suggests a summer departure could benefit both parties. AC Milan had also previously expressed interest.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly seeking a fee of around €30 million for Sorloth, the same amount they paid Villarreal two years ago. However, negotiations with Juventus are progressing, and the situation surrounding Nico Gonzalez could be pivotal. Gonzalez, currently on loan at Atletico from Juventus, wishes to remain in Madrid but the Spanish club is hesitant to meet the agreed-upon €32 million buyout clause.
Atletico believe Gonzalez’s value is closer to €20 million and are seeking a discount. A compromise on Gonzalez’s transfer could potentially serve as a partial payment towards Sorloth, facilitating the deal. This arrangement could allow Juventus to lower the immediate financial outlay for Sorloth while still securing a valuable attacking addition. The outcome of these negotiations could ultimately determine the success of both transfers.
