Juventus are monitoring the situation of Real Madrid defender David Alaba, with initial contacts made through agent Pini Zahavi, according to reports in Italy. The 33-year-old Austrian international, who will turn 34 on June 24th, is a free transfer target as his contract with Real Madrid expires this summer.
Alaba boasts an impressive trophy cabinet, having won ten Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich, as well as six German Cups and Super Cups. He added two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and two Spanish Super Cups during his time in Spain. On the European stage, he has four Champions League titles, four European Super Cups, and four Club World Cups. However, his recent seasons at Real Madrid have been hampered by injury, limiting him to just 16 appearances across all competitions last season, totaling 575 minutes played.
Juventus officials reportedly inquired about Alaba’s fitness directly with Real Madrid and have received positive reports, indicating the player is physically capable of contributing for at least another two seasons. The club’s interest began during discussions with Zahavi regarding Robert Lewandowski, and has continued as they seek to bolster their defensive options under new manager Massimiliano Allegri. Alaba’s versatility, capable of playing both center-back and left-back, is seen as a valuable asset.
Other defensive targets for Juventus include John Stones of Manchester City and Kim Min-Jae, currently at Bayern Munich, though the pursuit of Alaba appears to be more advanced. The Bianconeri are also considering a loan move for Kim Min-Jae, potentially facilitated by their recent improved relationship with Bayern Munich. Alaba’s potential arrival could provide experience and leadership to the Juventus squad, and his ability to play multiple positions would offer tactical flexibility for Allegri. His signing would represent a low-risk, high-reward move for a club looking to rebuild its defensive strength.
