Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Ilaix Moriba from Celta Vigo, according to Tuttosport. The 23-year-old midfielder has emerged as a potential target for the Turin club as they look to bolster their midfield options ahead of next season.
Moriba’s career has been marked by both early promise and subsequent challenges. He rose through the ranks at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, making his first-team debut at just 16 years old and drawing comparisons to Yaya Touré due to his powerful running and technical ability. Despite significant interest from clubs across Europe, including Liverpool and several Italian teams, he ultimately joined RB Leipzig in 2021 for a reported fee of €16 million.
However, Moriba’s time in Germany did not live up to expectations, and he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. He subsequently moved to Valencia and then Celta Vigo, where he has rediscovered his form. He has become a key player for Celta Vigo, showcasing his qualities as a dynamic midfielder in La Liga.
Juventus scouts have reportedly been monitoring Moriba’s progress in recent months, and the arrival of Giovanni Carnevali as the club’s new CEO could potentially facilitate a deal. Carnevali is said to have a strong relationship with Moriba’s representatives, which could prove beneficial during negotiations. Juventus are seeking to strengthen their midfield under manager Luciano Spalletti, and Moriba’s qualities – a blend of physicality and technical skill – are seen as a good fit for their needs. The club is planning to add at least two players to the midfield this summer.
Moriba offers the kind of playing time and characteristics in central midfield that Juventus currently lack. A move to Turin would provide him with a platform to further develop his career and potentially recapture the form that once marked him as one of Europe’s most promising young talents.
