Juventus’s hopes of signing Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker have been dealt a setback, as the Premier League club are reportedly unwilling to release the Brazilian international this summer. According to reports from Italy, Alisson, 33, has informed Liverpool of his desire to move to Turin, having reached a preliminary agreement with the Bianconeri for a three-year contract.
However, Liverpool are hesitant to allow Alisson to depart, particularly following the recent departures of key players Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson. The club fears losing too many leaders within a short timeframe and has requested Alisson to honour his contract, which runs until 2027. This comes as a surprise given Alisson’s perceived desire for a new challenge and a reunion with Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti.
Alisson is reportedly disappointed by Liverpool’s stance but has not given up on securing a move. As a potential compromise, Liverpool have offered Juventus the opportunity to take goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili on loan for one year. Mamardashvili, currently Alisson’s understudy, was initially expected to succeed Alisson in the summer, but that timeline may now be extended. The Georgian international could also represent a cost-effective option for Juventus, who will compete in the Europa League next season.
Juventus are now considering alternative goalkeeping options, with David De Gea and Guglielmo Vicario both on their shortlist. De Gea, 34, brings significant experience from his time at Manchester United, where he was a mainstay for over a decade. Vicario, currently at Tottenham Hotspur, is also being considered, though he may be seeking a return to Italy. Juventus’s sporting director Damien Comolli and Spalletti will assess the situation and determine how long to wait for Alisson before pursuing other targets. A further attempt to convince Alisson to push for a move is expected before Juventus definitively shifts its focus.
