Juventus are keeping a close watch on the contract dispute between Nicolò Zaniolo and Udinese, according to reports in Italy. The situation has reached a standstill, with the player’s representatives and the club remaining far apart on terms for a new deal.
Zaniolo currently earns approximately €1.2 million per season, a salary agreed upon last year when he joined Udinese on loan from Galatasaray, with a subsequent obligation to buy. That agreement included a non-binding understanding of a significant wage increase should the player perform well, which he did, contributing five goals and five assists in a successful campaign. However, Udinese have so far refused to meet Zaniolo’s demands for a salary closer to €2 million.
Udinese exercised their option to purchase Zaniolo permanently for €5 million, retaining a 50% stake in any future sale. Despite this investment, negotiations have stalled, with Zaniolo seeking a revised contract reflecting his improved form and importance to the team. He is expected to join the team for pre-season training but is seeking clarity on his future this week.
Juventus have reportedly contacted Claudio Vigorelli, Zaniolo’s agent, to explore the possibility of a transfer. While not currently a priority due to other pressing needs in the squad, the Bianconeri view Zaniolo as a potential alternative to Brahim Diaz, whose pursuit is proving difficult. Juventus are prepared to offer players such as Fabiano Parisi and Lazar Adzic as part of a potential deal with Udinese.
An auction for Zaniolo could begin around a €15 million valuation, with AC Milan also reportedly interested. Zaniolo is believed to favour a move to another Italian club and is not considering options abroad. The situation is expected to come to a head quickly, with either a resolution on his contract or Zaniolo seeking a transfer. Udinese’s director general Franco Collavino recently stated the club is “working” to find a compromise, but little progress has been made so far.
