Juventus are attempting to sign Lorenzo Pellegrini from Roma, according to reports in Italy, just after completing a deal for Roma right-back Zeki Celik. The move for Pellegrini comes as the player’s contract with Roma is set to expire on July 1st, making him a free agent, though negotiations for a renewal have stalled despite recent meetings between the club and his representatives.
Juventus sporting director Ricky Massara is reportedly leading the chase for the attacking midfielder, leveraging a strong existing relationship with Pellegrini. The Juventus hierarchy, including manager Luciano Spalletti, are said to be impressed by the player’s qualities. Other options for Juventus in the attacking midfield position have proven difficult, with Brahim Diaz keen to remain at Real Madrid and Nicolò Zaniolo considering a move to AC Milan. The club is also exploring options among players available on free transfers, similar to their ongoing discussions with Franck Kessié.
Pellegrini, 27, has been a key player for Roma since joining from Sassuolo in 2017, becoming a fan favourite and a regular starter under manager Gian Piero Gasperini. However, the lack of progress in contract negotiations has opened the door for Juventus to make their move. Roma manager Gasperini is reportedly frustrated by the potential loss of both Celik and Pellegrini, particularly the latter, whom he still views as a crucial part of his plans for the upcoming season, including participation in three competitions.
While Juventus have reportedly submitted a proposal to Pellegrini, the player is weighing his options carefully. He is said to be more emotionally attached to Roma than Celik, who has already signed with Juventus. A decision is expected imminently, as Pellegrini seeks to avoid a prolonged and exhausting summer transfer saga. The outcome of the negotiations will significantly impact both clubs’ plans for the upcoming Serie A season.
