Roma are showing strong interest in Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao, with the potential for a transfer this summer, according to reports in Italy. The move is linked to a developing relationship between Roma and Marseille, with both clubs having a history of player exchanges dating back to 1992, including transfers involving players like Veretout, Strootman, and Under.
The interest in Paixao is reportedly driven by Marseille’s need to raise funds to avoid exclusion from European competitions. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who previously attempted to sign the Brazilian player when at Atalanta in 2024, is a long-time admirer of Paixao’s qualities. At the time, a move was considered when Lookman’s potential departure was anticipated, but the Nigerian international ultimately remained with Atalanta.
Paixao has continued to impress since then, scoring 12 goals and providing 7 assists in 30 games for Feyenoord across all competitions last season. He also made a significant impact in the Champions League, netting 4 goals in 8 appearances. The 23-year-old primarily plays as a left winger, known for his speed in tight spaces and dribbling ability, often cutting inside from the left to shoot with his right foot, but is capable of playing on either flank.
Marseille reportedly valued Paixao at around €30 million plus bonuses when they signed him, but now seek to recoup a similar fee, potentially up to €35 million plus bonuses, due to their financial situation. Paixao’s current salary is approximately €3 million net per season, which is considered within Roma’s reach. Roma previously made an attempt to sign Paixao last year, but were beaten to the punch by Marseille. This summer, the situation appears more favorable for the Italian club, with Gasperini hoping to add the Brazilian to his squad.
