Roma have identified Olympique Marseille forward Mason Greenwood as their primary transfer target this summer, according to reports from Italy. The club, now under the direction of manager Gian Piero Gasperini, are aiming for four initial reinforcements, with a potential fifth dependent on player sales to comply with UEFA’s Settlement Agreement.
Greenwood has reportedly given Roma priority over other interested clubs, including Fenerbahce, following multiple conversations with Gasperini. The club’s ownership has already given the green light to pursue the Englishman, who spent last season on loan at Marseille after his contract with Manchester United was terminated. The move would fill a need on the right wing for Roma.
Alongside Greenwood, Gasperini has also highlighted the need for reinforcements in several other positions. Nahuel Molina, currently with Atletico Madrid and participating in the World Cup, is identified as the preferred option at right-back. A left-sided central defender to provide cover for Mario Hermoso is also a priority, with Leo Ostigard of Genoa emerging as a potential candidate should Evan Ndicka be sold to balance the books.
The midfield is also under consideration, with Lamine Camara of Monaco being eyed as a potential replacement for Manu Koné, who could be sold to generate funds. Koné’s potential departure would also free up space for Neil El Aynaoui to become a more consistent starter under Gasperini. Tottenham’s Mathys Tel is being considered as an alternative to Crysencio Summerville on the left wing, after Summerville’s reported wage demands proved too high.
Roma are also finalizing changes within their youth academy, with Massimo Margiotta set to be appointed as the new head of the youth sector. This appointment is seen as a continuation of the strong working relationship between Margiotta and sporting director Tony D’Amico, previously established during their time together at Verona. These moves signal a significant restructuring effort as Roma prepare for a campaign where Champions League football is the objective.
