Roma are turning their attention to Strasbourg winger Martial Godo as they seek to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season, according to reports in Italy. The move comes after initial target Ernest Summerville of West Ham became too expensive following a strong showing at the World Cup, with his price and wage demands – reportedly €6 million annually – proving prohibitive.
Gasperini has made it clear he wants two Champions League-level wingers, and while Mason Greenwood remains the primary candidate for the right flank, the search continues on the left. Godo, 23, emerges as a strong contender, having enjoyed a breakout season with Strasbourg. He scored ten goals in 28 Ligue 1 appearances, adding four in eleven Conference League games and two in the League Cup.
Godo’s rise in prominence coincided with an injury to a teammate, prompting Strasbourg to rely heavily on the Ivorian international. His market value has subsequently risen to approximately €30 million. Roma officials reportedly discussed Godo during talks with Strasbourg regarding Diego Moreira, another player of interest to the club. The winger, who also holds English citizenship having been born in London, previously spent time in Fulham’s academy and is a teammate of Roma defender Evan Ndicka on the national team.
However, Godo is not the only name on Roma’s shortlist. The club are also considering options in David Sauer of Feyenoord and Bryan Tel of Tottenham Hotspur. A move for El Mala of Cologne is considered beyond their reach due to a €50 million valuation, while Garnacho was offered on loan but did not fully convince the coaching staff. Roma’s search for wide players follows unsuccessful spells with Bailey and Zaragoza in recent months. The club is also assessing their options regarding a potential settlement agreement with UEFA, with Soulé currently the only confirmed departure.
