Roma are prepared to sell forward Matias Soulé to address financial concerns, according to reports in Italy. The move mirrors a similar situation two years ago when Soulé was sold by Juventus to improve their financial standing.
Soulé initially joined Roma in the summer of 2023 for a fee of €25.6 million plus €4 million in potential bonuses, a transfer that ultimately yielded around €30 million for Juventus, including a 10% sell-on clause. Despite a strong season with Frosinone prior to the move, where he scored 11 Serie A goals, Juventus decided to cash in, generating a €22.4 million positive impact on their financial results.
His time at Roma has been inconsistent. He struggled initially but found form under Claudio Ranieri. The recently concluded season saw a reverse trend, performing well in the first half but fading due to a persistent pubalgia issue. Despite coach Daniele De Rossi’s appreciation for his qualities, Soulé’s individualistic playing style may also be a factor in the club’s decision.
Roma need to generate approximately €60 million in additional revenue by June 30th to comply with financial regulations. Selling Soulé would contribute significantly to this target, potentially paving the way for other signings, including a possible move for Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood. Soulé’s career has consistently been impacted by financial considerations for his clubs, and this sale appears to be another example of that pattern. The club hopes this financial adjustment will allow them to strengthen the squad overall.
