Roma are shifting their focus to Nottingham Forest winger Dan Ndoye after efforts to sign Mason Greenwood proved too costly, according to reports from Italy. The club has determined that a move for Greenwood, who is now expected to join Fenerbahçe on a reported €7-8 million annual salary, is financially prohibitive at €50 million and is instead prioritizing a player already familiar with Serie A.
Ndoye previously played for Bologna, demonstrating his quality and adaptability within the Italian league. His recent season with Nottingham Forest was not particularly impactful, and a potential return to Italy under Gian Piero Gasperini could facilitate negotiations. Roma’s sporting director, Tony D’Amico, is evaluating several options for the right wing position, and Ndoye’s valuation has reportedly decreased, making him a more attainable target.
The Swiss international impressed at the recent World Cup, reaching the quarter-finals with his national team. His pace, tactical versatility, and work rate would make him an ideal complement to Paulo Dybala on the right flank. Ndoye also shares a strong rapport with Roma’s potential attacking partner, Donyell Malen, having previously played alongside him at Bologna and sharing a common language both on and off the pitch.
Roma are also progressing with contract renewals for key players Paulo Dybala, Zeki Celik, and Lorenzo Pellegrini, though the latter may require further discussion with his representatives. The club must also remain mindful of UEFA’s Settlement Agreement, which may necessitate the sale of a high-value player to maintain financial stability. There has been preliminary interest from Sunderland in Matias Soulé, but further developments are expected next week. Roma appear to have moved decisively away from pursuing Greenwood, focusing instead on more realistic and financially sound transfer targets.
