Sampdoria are considering a move for former Pescara attacker Lorenzo Insigne, who became a free agent at the end of June following Pescara’s relegation to Serie C. According to reports, the Ligurian club have made initial contact with representatives of the 35-year-old, though discussions are still in the early stages.
The move would represent a potential step up for Insigne, who has expressed a desire to return to Serie A after four years away. He scored five goals and provided three assists in 13 appearances for Pescara from January to June, but his age is a factor Sampdoria are weighing as they assess the viability of the transfer. Pescara, meanwhile, are also hoping to retain Insigne’s services as they attempt to rebound from their relegation.
Sampdoria recently saw Massimo Coda depart upon the expiration of his contract, leaving a void in their attacking options. Coda was the club’s top scorer in Serie B last season with nine goals. The club are seeking an experienced player to provide continuity and leadership as they aim to reach Serie A by 2028, and Insigne’s experience could be valuable in this regard.
Sampdoria’s CEO Fredberg is also monitoring the situation of Martinelli, who impressed on loan at the club last season. However, Avellino are currently considered frontrunners to sign the young goalkeeper. The club are also exploring options to bring Viti back to Genoa, but a deal with Nice would be complicated by the player’s contract, which runs until 2027, and the significant fee paid for his services previously. Sampdoria are also considering attacking options such as Pecorino of Südtirol and Tobias Lauritsen of Sparta Rotterdam, but face competition from other European clubs for both players.
