Tariq Lamptey has departed Fiorentina after the club and player agreed to a mutual termination of his contract, the Serie A side confirmed on Saturday. The move brings an end to Lamptey’s short spell in Florence, where he struggled with injury and limited playing time.
Lamptey arrived at Fiorentina last summer as a backup to Dodo at right-back, but his time with the club was hampered by a serious knee injury. He made just two appearances for the Viola, suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear in a September match against Como. Following the injury, he was largely absent from the team sheet.
The agreement to rescind the contract was reached after weeks of speculation regarding the player’s future, according to reports in Italy. Fiorentina’s official statement confirmed the consensual nature of the termination, offering no further details on potential next steps for the player.
Prior to joining Fiorentina, Lamptey had established himself as a promising young talent in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion. He joined Brighton from Chelsea’s academy in 2019, quickly becoming known for his pace and attacking prowess. However, injuries have frequently disrupted his career, limiting his consistent involvement in first-team action.
Lamptey’s departure frees up a squad space for Fiorentina as they plan for next season. The club finished tenth in Serie A this season and will be looking to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window. The release allows Lamptey to seek a new club where he can potentially regain consistent playing time and continue his development.
