FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has downplayed speculation linking Ferran Torres with a move to Paris Saint-Germain. Speaking from the United States, where he is attending the World Cup semi-final between Spain and France, Laporta stated the club has not received any indication of interest from PSG for the 26-year-old attacker.
According to L’Équipe, Laporta acknowledged awareness of the rumours but firmly asserted that Torres remains a Barcelona player. “I’ve heard about it, but we haven’t had confirmation. He is a player for Barça,” Laporta said. The comments come amid reported interest from the French champions, with Luis Enrique, the former Spain national team manager, known to be an admirer of Torres.
Torres has been a regular feature for Spain at the World Cup, making several appearances as a substitute. Laporta highlighted the player’s recent form, specifically referencing his assist for Mikel Merino during Spain’s victory over Portugal in the group stage. The Barcelona president emphasized Torres’s impact when introduced into matches, describing him as consistently dangerous.
Torres joined Barcelona in December 2021 from Manchester City for a reported fee of €55 million. He has become a key part of Xavi Hernández’s squad, contributing goals and assists in La Liga and the Champions League. While Barcelona are not actively seeking to sell Torres, the club’s financial situation could potentially make them receptive to offers, particularly given the opportunity to generate a significant profit on a recent acquisition. A move to PSG would reunite Torres with Enrique, offering him a potentially prominent role in a star-studded attack.
Should PSG formally express interest, Barcelona may face a difficult decision balancing their financial needs with the sporting value of retaining a versatile and increasingly influential forward.
