Reports claiming Martin Odegaard has agreed personal terms with Galatasaray are false, according to sources at Arsenal and close to the player. Turkish journalist Selman Ozturk initially reported that the Gunners captain had reached an agreement with the Turkish club, with a potential fee of under €40 million being discussed, or alternatively, a larger fee paid in instalments.
Ozturk claimed Odegaard’s agent, Bjorn Kvarme, held face-to-face talks with Galatasaray officials in Istanbul last week. However, football.london reports these claims are inaccurate, and sources indicate Kvarme has not been in Istanbul recently, and is currently with Odegaard in the United States. The reports surfaced amidst Odegaard’s participation in the World Cup with Norway, who progressed to the round of 32 after defeating the Ivory Coast.
Recent speculation regarding Odegaard’s future arose after BBC reporter Sami Mokbel mentioned hearing “whispers” that Arsenal might be open to offers for the 27-year-old. This followed a period where the Norwegian international has faced challenges with injuries, impacting his overall influence on the team, according to some observers. Galatasaray are reportedly seeking a high-profile attacking addition, and have also been linked with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.
Despite the recent rumours, Arsenal sources maintain that Odegaard is “very happy” at the club, and the club are also content with his contributions. While acknowledging his injury setbacks, the expectation is that Odegaard will return for pre-season training as planned and remain an Arsenal player. The situation suggests Odegaard will continue to be a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad, despite external interest.
