Atlético Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen are currently engaged in negotiations regarding a potential transfer for left-back Alejandro Grimaldo. The Spanish capital club are pursuing the player, but a gap remains between their valuation and Leverkusen’s asking price, according to multiple reports.
Transfer journalist Mateo Moretto reports that Leverkusen are seeking a fee of approximately €25 million, including potential bonuses. Atlético Madrid, however, are hesitant to spend that amount, with their offer currently capped at €18-20 million, also including bonuses. Despite the difference, the base transfer fee is anticipated to be in the range of €10-13 million, aligning with previous reporting on the deal.
Negotiations are described as ongoing, with a positive relationship between the two clubs potentially facilitating an agreement. Grimaldo himself is reportedly keen on the move, desiring a return to Spain and expressing enthusiasm about the prospect of playing for Atlético Madrid. The player has been a key figure for Leverkusen since joining from Benfica in 2021, contributing significantly in both defensive and attacking phases.
However, German publication Kicker offered a contrasting view on Friday, stating that Leverkusen have placed a €30 million valuation on Grimaldo and are proving resistant to substantial reductions. This discrepancy in reported asking prices suggests the negotiations are complex and subject to change. Grimaldo, 28, has consistently delivered strong performances in the Bundesliga, establishing himself as one of the league’s premier left-backs.
Should Atlético Madrid successfully secure Grimaldo’s signature, it would provide manager Diego Simeone with another experienced option at left-back, potentially challenging Mario Hermoso for the starting role. The transfer would also signal Atlético’s continued ambition to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season, as they aim to compete both domestically and in European competitions.
