Barcelona have moved ahead of Bayern Munich in the pursuit of Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon, according to MD. The Catalan club are intensifying their efforts to sign the 25-year-old this summer, with the player reportedly favouring a move to the Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona are aiming to bolster their attacking options with at least two new forwards during the transfer window, targeting both a left winger and a striker. This pursuit is independent of any potential decision regarding Marcus Rashford, currently on loan from Manchester United, suggesting the club views strengthening the wing position as a priority regardless. Sporting director Deco has been evaluating several options, including Julian Alvarez, Joao Pedro, and Harry Kane, but Gordon has emerged as a strong contender.
Gordon is widely expected to depart Newcastle United at the end of the season, and had been in discussions with Bayern Munich. However, Barcelona’s recent intervention has shifted the dynamic, with Deco having held talks with Gordon’s representatives during a recent trip to London. The report indicates that Gordon is enthusiastic about the possibility of joining Barcelona.
During the 2025-26 season, Gordon demonstrated versatility for Newcastle, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists across all competitions while playing as both a winger and a striker. Barcelona view this adaptability as a key asset, believing he can effectively contribute in multiple positions and potentially alleviate the pressure to immediately find a direct replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
Negotiations are complicated by Newcastle’s valuation of the player. The club is reportedly seeking a fee in the range of €85-90 million for Gordon. While previous reports suggested a deal could be struck for around €75 million, which would be more palatable for Barcelona, any transfer will still significantly impact the club’s budget for other targets, including a new centre-back and a number nine. The financial implications remain a key hurdle in completing the deal.
