Real Betis have entered the competition to sign Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin, according to sources at TEAMtalk. The 25-year-old Belgian international has attracted interest from several European clubs, casting doubt over his future at Ibrox.
Raskin joined Rangers from Standard Liege in January 2023 and quickly established himself as a key player for the Scottish Premiership side. Last season, he recorded seven goals and nine assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, earning a call-up to Belgium’s World Cup squad where he featured in all three of his nation’s matches.
While Raskin’s contract with Rangers extends until 2028, he is reportedly keen on a new challenge, and his recent performances have heightened interest from abroad. Serie A clubs are currently considered frontrunners, with Atalanta particularly interested as they prepare for the departure of Ederson to Manchester United. Bologna have also initiated preliminary talks with Rangers, demonstrating their serious intent.
Newly-promoted Premier League club Hull City recently submitted a bid of approximately £14 million for Raskin, but Rangers swiftly rejected the offer, valuing the player in excess of £20 million. The clubs are already conducting business with each other, with Hull set to sign goalkeeper Ivor Pandur and Jack Butland moving in the opposite direction.
Manager Derek McInnes is understood to highly value Raskin, but Rangers are prepared to consider offers that meet their valuation, potentially using the funds to strengthen other areas of the squad. With Raskin entering the final two years of his contract and no extension currently planned, this summer represents an optimal time for Rangers to potentially sell. The player himself has indicated a desire to play in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
A sale would necessitate finding a suitable replacement, with Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson among the potential targets. A substantial transfer fee for Raskin would bolster Rangers’ transfer budget and demonstrate their ability to acquire players at a low cost and sell them for a significant profit.
