Como are leading the chase to sign Real Madrid Castilla midfielder Cesar Palacios this summer, according to Diario AS. The 21-year-old is expected to depart the Spanish capital in search of regular first-team football, with Osasuna, Getafe, and Alaves also expressing interest.
Palacios has featured for Real Madrid’s senior team on six occasions, accumulating 76 minutes of playing time, and has impressed when given opportunities. He was a key player under Alvaro Arbeloa during his time managing Castilla, demonstrating his capabilities in central midfield. However, with limited prospects of breaking into the first team permanently, Real Madrid are prepared to let him move on.
Athletic Club had previously shown interest in Palacios, but have withdrawn from the race due to Real Madrid’s standard sale conditions. Los Leones were unwilling to agree to a 50% sell-on fee and a buyback clause, nor were they prepared to meet the requirements set by Real Madrid to waive these terms. This leaves Como and Osasuna as the frontrunners for his signature.
Como have already successfully recruited Jacobo Ramon and Nico Paz from Real Madrid Castilla, both of whom have become important players under manager Cesc Fabregas. Osasuna are also familiar with Real Madrid’s youth system, having recently signed Victor Munoz, who has performed well for the club this season. Palacios currently has two years remaining on his contract with Real Madrid, but the club are also pursuing additions to their own midfield, further diminishing his opportunities.
Palacios’ departure would continue a recent trend of Real Madrid Castilla players moving on to gain experience at the highest level, while allowing the club to retain a financial stake in their future development. The move represents a logical step for the young midfielder as he seeks consistent playing time to further his career.
