Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is likely to join Inter Milan, with Serie A rivals Como withdrawing from the race for the England international. The unusual move comes after Como president Mirwan Suwarso contacted Inter’s Beppe Marotta to concede the pursuit, prioritizing a positive relationship between the clubs over a potential bidding war.
Chalobah, 27, has long been linked with a departure from Chelsea, despite periodically featuring in the first team. While previously managing to regain his place in the squad, the current situation suggests a permanent exit is now favoured by both the player and the club. He is reportedly keen on a move to Italy, adding further weight to the likelihood of a transfer.
Como had been actively pursuing Chalobah for several weeks, however, Inter’s late entry has altered the dynamic. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Suwarso informed Marotta that Como would “step aside” and allow Inter to negotiate directly with Chelsea if they were genuinely interested in signing the defender. This decision stems from Chalobah’s clear preference for a move to the San Siro.
Romano detailed the conversation between the club presidents, explaining that Como do not wish to become embroiled in a drawn-out bidding process when the player’s heart is set on joining Inter. Suwarso communicated that Como would remain interested should Inter decide against pursuing Chalobah, but otherwise, they are prepared to focus on alternative targets. This approach reflects a desire to maintain a positive rapport with fellow Serie A clubs.
Currently, Chelsea are awaiting developments regarding Chalobah’s future. No fee has been publicly disclosed, but the situation now rests with Inter to initiate formal negotiations. The move would provide Chalobah with a fresh start in a top European league, while Chelsea would recoup a transfer fee for a player who has been frequently linked with an exit. Inter, meanwhile, would add a versatile defender to their squad as they prepare for another Serie A title challenge.
