AS Monaco have announced the departure of manager Sébastien Pocognoli, the club confirmed on Monday. Pocognoli leaves the principality after less than eight months in charge, having been appointed to replace Adi Hütter in November 2025. The decision comes following a disappointing seventh-place finish in Ligue 1, which means Monaco will enter qualifying rounds for the Europa Conference League.
Pocognoli’s record with Monaco was 16 wins, 9 draws, and 13 defeats. The club released a statement thanking Pocognoli and his staff for their commitment, wishing them well for the future. He was under contract until 2027, making this a relatively swift change in leadership.
The 38-year-old Belgian coach was unable to secure European qualification for Monaco through the league, ultimately costing him his position. Monaco’s seventh-place finish represented a significant underperformance given the club’s ambitions and resources. The club will now begin the search for a replacement, with former player Filipe Luís among the potential candidates.
The departure of Pocognoli opens the door for a restructuring of the Monaco coaching staff. The club will be hoping to find a manager who can restore a sense of stability and lead them back into contention for Champions League qualification. This managerial change signals a new direction for Monaco as they prepare for the upcoming season and the challenge of navigating the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
