Real Madrid are considering a move for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, with the possibility of activating his release clause in July. According to reports from Madrid, the club is assessing options to replace Dani Carvajal, and Dumfries has emerged as a potential candidate.
Dumfries’ contract with Inter includes a clause allowing him to leave for approximately €25 million during the month of July. Outside of this window, any interested club would need to negotiate directly with Inter. The 30-year-old joined Inter in 2021 for a reported €12 million, but has not consistently featured as a starter in Serie A, with fewer than 20 league starts in each of his three seasons with the club.
The interest from Real Madrid comes amidst presidential elections at the club, with Florentino Perez the strong favourite to retain his position. Market discussions are taking place alongside the election process, as Real seeks to strengthen a squad that has lacked major trophies in recent years. The club previously invested heavily in Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer, but the English international failed to meet expectations and was not included in Tuchel’s squad for the recent World Club Championship.
Another player under consideration is Pedro Porro of Tottenham Hotspur, however, the Premier League club are unlikely to allow him to leave on favourable terms. The potential appointment of Jose Mourinho as Real Madrid’s next manager could also influence the pursuit of Dumfries, as Mourinho is known to be an admirer of the player from their time at Manchester United. Real Madrid’s immediate focus is on the presidential election, followed by the appointment of a new coach, before potentially initiating a move for Dumfries should the opportunity arise from July 1st.
