Real Madrid have announced the signing of left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea on a six-year contract, extending to June 30, 2032. The Spanish international joins the club for a reported fee of €60 million, comprised of a €55 million base fee and an additional €5 million in potential bonuses, according to reports in both Spain and England.
The move sees Cucurella return to Spain after two seasons with Chelsea, where he became a regular fixture in the starting eleven. He arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2022 and made 163 appearances for the Blues, scoring nine goals in all competitions. Despite his consistent performances, the Spaniard has become part of a restructuring effort at Chelsea under new ownership.
Cucurella, 27, was also a target for his former club, Barcelona, and Atlético Madrid, but Real Madrid moved decisively to secure his signature. The transfer represents a significant investment in a position where Real Madrid were seeking reinforcement, especially following the departure of several veteran players this summer.
He has earned 24 caps for the Spanish national team and is currently part of the squad preparing for the 2026 World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The signing of Cucurella follows Real Madrid’s acquisition of French international Ibrahima Konaté, signaling an active summer transfer window for the club under newly-appointed manager José Mourinho.
The arrival of Cucurella provides Real Madrid with a dynamic and experienced option at left-back, strengthening their squad ahead of a challenging La Liga season and their continued pursuit of Champions League success. This transfer further solidifies Real Madrid’s position as a dominant force in European football.
