Barcelona are preparing to sell winger Roony Bardghji this summer, with Leeds United among a number of Premier League clubs contacted regarding a potential transfer, according to TEAMtalk. The move comes as Barcelona close in on the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.
Bardghji arrived at Camp Nou last summer in a deal worth approximately £2million from FC Copenhagen, joining as a free agent in the final months of his contract. Despite making 26 appearances for the Catalan club last season, including seven starts, Barcelona have decided to pursue alternative options in the attacking positions.
Sources indicate that the club are replacing Bardghji with Adeyemi, a 24-year-old Germany international who has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Liverpool. Barcelona are reportedly close to agreeing a deal for Adeyemi worth around £25million. This acquisition is expected to facilitate Bardghji’s departure.
Barcelona’s intermediaries have begun discussions with several clubs that previously expressed interest in Bardghji, signalling his availability for transfer. Leeds United are identified as one of the clubs showing the strongest interest, having continued to monitor the player’s progress. Aston Villa, Sunderland, Brighton, Brentford and Everton have also been informed of the situation.
Despite Barcelona’s decision, Bardghji remains a highly-regarded prospect in European football, praised for his technical ability, versatility and potential. The club’s decision is understood to be driven by squad planning and the arrival of Adeyemi, which would limit Bardghji’s playing opportunities.
The arrival of Adeyemi also impacts the future of Marcus Rashford, who was previously linked with a move to Barcelona. Having spent last season on loan with the club, contributing to 28 goals, Rashford’s option to make the deal permanent was not taken up by Barcelona, who instead signed Anthony Gordon. With Adeyemi’s arrival and his ability to play on the left flank – Rashford’s preferred position – a move to Barcelona now appears unlikely, with Tottenham Hotspur now favourites to sign the England international.
