Leeds United are preparing to open contract negotiations with manager Daniel Farke following the club’s successful Premier League survival, according to reports. The 49ers Enterprises, the club’s owners, are keen to align their ambitions with Farke’s vision for the future.
Farke has overseen a remarkable turnaround at Elland Road, guiding Leeds back to the top flight after a single season in the Championship. He previously led the team to the Championship title in his second year, securing 100 points in the process. This season, Leeds secured their Premier League status with a game to spare, currently on 47 points, and potentially reaching 50 with a win against West Ham on the final day.
Leeds’ recent form has been particularly impressive, with an eight-game unbeaten run – the longest by a newly-promoted side since Birmingham City in the 2009/10 season – demonstrating their resilience and tactical adaptability. This positive trajectory comes after a period of uncertainty earlier in the season, when a four-game losing streak raised questions about Farke’s position.
Despite those concerns, the club consistently maintained its support for Farke, whose current contract runs until June 2027. Sources indicate the board intentionally delayed discussions about a new deal to keep the manager focused on the immediate task of avoiding relegation. Now that Premier League survival is confirmed, they are ready to reward his efforts with improved terms.
Farke has publicly stated his desire to remain at Leeds, but has also challenged the board to match his ambition of building a team capable of challenging in the upper reaches of the Premier League. He emphasized the importance of a clear project and a shared vision for the club’s future, stating he is not interested in simply maintaining the status quo. He wants to see investment in the squad to elevate Leeds to the next level.
The club is expected to prioritize a new contract for Farke alongside plans to add four to five new players this summer, including a centre forward to provide competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Securing Farke’s long-term future is seen as crucial to the club’s continued progress.
