RB Leipzig are considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios, according to Argentine journalist Sebastián Srur. The Bundesliga club, now managed by Martin Demichelis, are reportedly assessing the 27-year-old as they prepare for their Champions League campaign.
Palacios recently returned from the World Cup with Argentina, where the defending champions were defeated by Spain in the final. He featured in one match during the tournament, against Jordan. The midfielder joined Leverkusen from River Plate in January 2020 and currently has a contract with the club until 2030.
However, Palacios’s time at Leverkusen has been frequently disrupted by injuries. He made only 18 Bundesliga appearances during the 2025/26 season, indicating a struggle for consistent fitness. Despite this, his qualities have seemingly attracted the attention of Demichelis, who took over as Leipzig manager replacing Ole Werner.
The interest from Leipzig comes after they secured the signing of Rocco Reitz from Borussia Mönchengladbach as a replacement for Xaver Schlager, who departed on a free transfer. Reitz’s arrival suggests Leipzig are actively strengthening their midfield options ahead of next season. Palacios will begin a summer break before rejoining Leverkusen for pre-season preparations, though his future remains uncertain.
Demichelis’s presence at Leipzig is a significant factor in the club’s interest in Palacios, potentially offering the Argentine international a familiar environment and a chance to play under a compatriot. A move to Leipzig would provide Palacios with a new opportunity to showcase his abilities in a competitive environment and potentially secure more consistent playing time.
