RB Leipzig have expressed interest in Everton forward Thierno Barry, according to TEAMtalk. The 23-year-old joined the Toffees from Villarreal last summer for a fee of £27.6million, scoring eight Premier League goals in 38 appearances during his debut season.
Despite a somewhat inconsistent first year at Goodison Park, where he often found himself behind Beto in the pecking order, Barry has attracted attention from the Bundesliga side. Sources indicate that Leipzig have made an approach through the player’s representatives, though Everton are not actively seeking to sell him.
Any potential sale would ultimately be decided by manager David Moyes, with the club not ruling out a departure should a suitable offer be presented. Barry, a former France under-21s international, is currently contracted to Everton until 2029, giving the club significant control over his future.
Everton would likely seek to recoup the £27.6million they initially invested in Barry should they opt to sell. Meanwhile, Moyes is already exploring potential replacements, with Feyenoord striker Ayase Ueda identified as a target as far back as April. Ueda recently scored twice for Japan against Tunisia, further bolstering his credentials.
Other options being considered by Everton include Liam Delap of Chelsea, Taty Castellanos currently at West Ham, Juventus’ Lois Openda, and Levante’s Karl Etta Eyong. Delap, despite a relatively quiet season with Chelsea, is believed to be a good fit for Everton’s system, while Openda previously enjoyed a prolific spell with Leipzig before joining Juventus. Etta Eyong, who impressed for Levante, is also attracting interest from Ipswich Town.
The potential arrival of a new striker could allow Everton to move Barry on, but the final decision rests with Moyes as he assesses his options for the upcoming season.
