Borussia Mönchengladbach have announced the signing of Enzo Leopold from Hannover 96 on a free transfer. The 25-year-old midfielder has agreed to a long-term contract with the Bundesliga club, extending until 2030.
Leopold joins Borussia-Park after four seasons with Hannover 96, where he established himself as a key player in central midfield. He captained the 2. Bundesliga side last season, demonstrating leadership qualities that Mönchengladbach sporting director Rouven Schröder highlighted during the announcement. Schröder stated that Leopold possesses a combination of discipline, intensity, technical ability, and tactical awareness, making him a valuable addition to the squad.
“Enzo has developed into a mainstay in central midfield over four years at Hannover 96,” Schröder said. “He leads by example, goes about his work on the pitch with discipline and great intensity, but is also a good technical footballer with a strong tactical understanding. Last season, as captain of his team, he also took a big step forward in terms of leadership.”
Leopold expressed his delight at securing a move to the Bundesliga, fulfilling a long-held ambition. He emphasized his eagerness to integrate into the Mönchengladbach team and pledged to give his full commitment to the club and its supporters. “It was always my dream to play in the Bundesliga,” Leopold commented. “For it to happen at a club of this size is obviously special. I can’t wait to get started here and I can promise all the fans that I’ll always give 100 percent.”
Having progressed through the youth ranks at various clubs, including Werder Bremen, Leopold found a consistent role at Hannover 96, making over 100 appearances for the club across all competitions. His ability to dictate play from midfield and contribute defensively made him a sought-after player, and Mönchengladbach moved quickly to secure his signature on a free transfer.
The arrival of Leopold provides Mönchengladbach with added depth and quality in the midfield area, potentially bolstering their options as they look to improve their Bundesliga performance next season. His leadership experience as a former captain could also prove beneficial in the dressing room, contributing to a positive team environment.
