Bayer Leverkusen have registered their interest in signing Eintracht Frankfurt defender Arthur Theate, according to Sacha Tavolieri. The Bundesliga champions are considering the Belgian international as a potential reinforcement ahead of the 2024-25 season, though the exact nature of their pursuit remains dependent on movement within their own squad.
Leverkusen are currently assessing their options in central defense, with potential departures and loan arrangements yet to be finalised. This uncertainty has prompted the club to identify Theate, a versatile player capable of featuring both at centre-back and left-back, as a viable target. Theate made 33 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, demonstrating his adaptability and consistent performance.
However, Leverkusen will face competition for Theate’s signature from Turkey. Besiktas have already initiated contact with Frankfurt regarding a potential transfer, while Galatasaray are also monitoring the situation closely. Galatasaray’s interest could intensify should they experience further defensive departures in the coming weeks.
Theate initially joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in 2024 before making the move permanent in the spring of 2025 from Stade Rennes for a reported fee of €13 million. He is currently contracted to the German club until 2029, giving Frankfurt a strong negotiating position. The club are reportedly seeking a fee between €15 and 20 million for the 36-time Belgian international.
Theate has established himself as a reliable performer in the Bundesliga since his arrival, contributing to Frankfurt’s defensive stability. His ability to play multiple positions adds to his appeal, making him a valuable asset for any team seeking defensive reinforcement. Should Theate move to Leverkusen, he would likely compete for a starting role within Xabi Alonso’s squad, adding depth and quality to their already impressive defensive options.
