Bayer Leverkusen are considering a move for Como 1907 left-back Álex Valle as a replacement for Alejandro Grimaldo, who recently completed a transfer to Atlético Madrid for a reported €25 million. The Bundesliga champions are actively seeking a new option at left-back following Grimaldo’s departure and have identified the Spanish under-21 international as a potential successor.
Grimaldo’s sale to Atlético Madrid leaves a void in Leverkusen’s squad, having been a key component of Xabi Alonso’s title-winning team. The Spaniard contributed significantly in attack from the left flank, providing both assists and a consistent attacking threat. Leverkusen are looking to find a player with a similar profile to maintain their attacking dynamism.
According to Sport Bild, Valle has emerged as a strong candidate to fill that role. The 21-year-old shares stylistic similarities with Grimaldo, being a technically proficient full-back known for his forward runs and attacking contributions. Valle progressed through the famed La Masia academy at FC Barcelona, though he did not make a senior appearance for the Catalan giants.
Valle joined Como in 2022 and has become a regular in the Italian side, demonstrating his abilities in Serie B. He has consistently been one of Como’s most influential players, contributing to both defensive solidity and attacking phases. The club reportedly values him at around €20 million, a figure that places him in a similar price bracket to other potential targets, including Arsène Kouassi of FC Lorient.
Leverkusen’s interest in Valle suggests they are prioritizing a like-for-like replacement for Grimaldo, seeking a full-back who can seamlessly integrate into their attacking system. While Kouassi has also been linked, Valle’s profile appears to align more closely with the qualities Alonso values in a full-back. Securing Valle would provide Leverkusen with a young, dynamic player capable of contributing immediately to their continued success in both domestic and European competitions.
