Everton are reportedly among a group of Premier League clubs interested in signing Keito Nakamura from Stade Reims, with the French club having agreed to allow the player to leave for a fee of £25.1million this summer. The news comes as Everton finalize the permanent signing of Tyrique George from Chelsea for a fee around £20million, following a successful loan spell, and have already secured Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney for £16.5million.
Nakamura, a 25-year-old winger who primarily plays on the left, enjoyed a productive season with Reims, scoring 14 goals in 31 league appearances. He also showcased his abilities on the international stage for Japan at the World Cup, notably scoring against the Netherlands and providing an assist versus Tunisia. According to BBC Sport, Everton face competition from Bournemouth and Fulham for his signature.
The Toffees have reportedly made initial contact with Nakamura’s representatives to discuss potential deal terms, though a move is contingent on outgoings within the squad. Dwight McNeil is considered a potential departure, with West Ham among the clubs expressing interest in the former Burnley winger, and could be replaced by Nakamura. McNeil came close to joining Crystal Palace in January, but the transfer ultimately fell through.
Everton manager David Moyes is also hoping to retain Jack Grealish, currently on loan from Manchester City, with negotiations expected to begin soon regarding another potential loan deal. The club are also monitoring Feyenoord striker Ayase Ueda, who scored 26 goals last season, but a move for the 27-year-old may depend on the futures of current Everton forwards Thierno Barry or Beto. Securing Nakamura would further bolster Everton’s attacking options as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League season.
