Inter Milan have moved on from Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in their search for a backup to first-choice keeper Emiliano Martinez, turning their attention to Lazio’s Ivan Provedel and Arsenal’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to reports in Italy.
Vicario, who recently helped Tottenham secure their Premier League status, had been a long-term target for Inter, with club officials Marotta and Ausilio reportedly holding extensive talks with the player. However, the club ultimately decided against pursuing a deal, reaffirming their faith in Martinez as the clear number one.
Martinez has cemented his position as Inter’s starting goalkeeper after joining from Genoa in 2024 for a reported €15 million. Despite a challenging period following a car accident, the Argentinian impressed while filling in for Yann Sommer, and ultimately started in all of Inter’s Coppa Italia matches, including the final against Lazio where he made a crucial save.
Inter are now considering both Provedel, aged 32, and Kepa, aged 31, as potential backups. Kepa, currently at Arsenal, has limited playing time with only 12 appearances this season but boasts a decorated career, including Champions League titles with Chelsea and Real Madrid. Provedel, who has been a consistent starter for Lazio since 2022, is valued around €3-4 million and would also fulfill Serie A squad registration requirements as an Italian player. The club is seeking a balance of experienced foreign players and homegrown talent, and both Kepa and Provedel fit that profile. The choice between the two will likely depend on factors beyond purely footballing ability, including squad composition and league regulations.
The arrival of either Provedel or Kepa would provide valuable competition and cover for Martinez, ensuring Inter have a reliable option in goal should the need arise.
