Inter Milan are preparing to relaunch a bid for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, with a potential transfer fee of €25 million (£21.6m) plus a sell-on clause, according to reports from TuttoSport. This move is contingent on Inter selling Davide Frattesi to Nottingham Forest, who are reportedly preparing a bid for the Italian midfielder.
Jones, who has made 228 appearances for Liverpool since his debut, reportedly informed the club of his desire to move to Inter some time ago, believing a move abroad is the next step in his career. Several other Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa and Newcastle United, have expressed interest in the 23-year-old, but Jones is understood to favour a move to the Serie A side.
The potential transfer comes amidst a period of change at Liverpool, with Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate already departing this summer. Further departures are anticipated, with Alisson, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, and Jones all linked with moves away. Jones started only 18 Premier League games last season and may be deemed surplus to requirements under new manager Andoni Iraola.
Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has publicly acknowledged the club’s interest in Jones, stating, “Curtis Jones, we are paying attention to him. We didn’t hide. We understand what the developments will be.” The sale of Frattesi to Nottingham Forest, valued between £21.6-25.9m, would provide Inter with the financial flexibility to meet Liverpool’s valuation, which currently stands at €30 million (£25.9m).
The transfer could represent a significant move for Jones, offering him the opportunity to experience a new league and playing style. For Inter, it would add depth and quality to their midfield options.
