Liverpool are exploring options to strengthen their midfield this summer, with Alexis Mac Allister potentially departing the club, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic. The club is actively making contact with midfielders, suggesting a potential arrival even with a current roster including Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, and Wataru Endo.
Romano, speaking on YouTube, stated that Liverpool are “making some calls for midfielders” and anticipates movement in that position. This comes amid speculation surrounding the futures of both Mac Allister and Jones, with Inter Milan heavily linked with a move for the latter. Mac Allister, a key player in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign and a regular for Argentina, has reportedly attracted interest from Real Madrid.
Recent reports suggest Mac Allister may no longer be able to consistently meet the physical demands of the Premier League. His form dipped in the most recent season, leading to questions about his long-term suitability. The Athletic also notes that addressing the midfield and right-back positions are priorities for Liverpool this summer, following uncertainty around attackers Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo, and Hugo Ekitike’s long-term injury.
While no specific targets have been identified, players such as Alex Scott of Bournemouth and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace have been linked with a move to Anfield. The potential sale of Mac Allister, or even Jones, would free up funds and space in the squad for a new addition. This proactive approach in midfield suggests Liverpool are preparing for potential changes and aiming to maintain a competitive edge in the upcoming season. A successful midfield overhaul could be crucial for Liverpool’s ambitions in both domestic and European competitions.
