Liverpool and Manchester United are both monitoring the situation surrounding Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic, according to a report from CaughtOffside. This comes despite the 19-year-old having already agreed personal terms with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Vuskovic spent last season on loan at Hamburg, where he impressed in the German Bundesliga, scoring six goals in 30 appearances and establishing himself as a key player for the club. He is currently with the Croatian national team at the World Cup, having started in their opening match against England.
Tottenham are open to allowing Vuskovic to leave this summer, having already strengthened their central defensive options with the signings of Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke. Sources have confirmed to TransfersDaily correspondent Graeme Bailey that the player has requested a departure from N17, seeking more regular first-team opportunities and ruling out another loan spell.
Brighton have already submitted two bids for Vuskovic, offering £30 million and then £45 million, but both were rejected by Tottenham, who are reportedly holding out for a fee closer to £60 million. Liverpool are now considering a move for the player as they look for long-term defensive reinforcements, with Vuskovic fitting the profile of player the club are seeking.
Signing Vuskovic would offer a solution to Liverpool’s future needs in the centre-back position, potentially as a replacement for Ibrahima Konate and a long-term understudy to Virgil van Dijk. The Reds have already invested in young defenders Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet, and Vuskovic would further bolster their options. Manchester United are also reportedly interested, with the teenager seen as providing valuable depth amid concerns over the fitness of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez, and as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire.
Despite the interest from Liverpool and United, Brighton remain confident of securing Vuskovic’s signature and are preparing a third bid, according to sources. The situation remains fluid, and it is unclear whether either Liverpool or United will make a formal offer.
