Liverpool are considering a range of midfield options ahead of the summer transfer window, including Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara, according to a report from The Athletic. The club is evaluating eight players in total, with Kamara among four currently playing within the Premier League.
The potential overhaul in midfield comes amid uncertainty surrounding the futures of several current players. Curtis Jones’ contract talks have stalled, potentially opening the door for a sale, while Alexis Mac Allister’s recent dip in form has prompted sporting director Richard Hughes to explore reinforcements in the position.
Kamara joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 and has become a key figure for the Birmingham club, though his impact is keenly felt during injury absences. The Athletic notes that Villa’s win rate drops significantly from 72.2 per cent to 23.5 per cent when the Frenchman is unavailable. He is described as a “front-footed” midfielder who excels in tackling and dribbling, ranking highly for take-ons and fouls suffered among Premier League players.
However, the report also highlights concerns about Kamara’s recent injury record, having previously enjoyed consistent fitness during his time at Marseille. Other midfielders on Liverpool’s radar include Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, Alex Scott of Bournemouth, and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace. Further international options being considered are Ederson (Atalanta), Angelo Stiller (Stuttgart), Lamine Camara (Monaco) and Mamadou Sangare (Lens).
The influx of potential midfield targets suggests Liverpool are preparing for a significant reshaping of their squad during the upcoming transfer window, aiming to address both current weaknesses and future needs in the centre of the park.
