Manchester United are reportedly engaged in discussions with Michael Carrick regarding the permanent head coach position, according to Sky Sports, as the former midfielder’s interim spell has yielded Champions League qualification. While Carrick is currently the frontrunner, the club is maintaining an open mind and will continue interviewing other candidates.
Elsewhere, United’s pursuit of Bournemouth forward Eli Kroupi appears to be facing significant obstacles. Bournemouth director Tiago Pinto emphatically stated to 365scores that Kroupi is “going nowhere” this summer, citing a long-term contract without a release clause. The 19-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed a breakthrough season, scoring 12 Premier League goals, attracting interest from Arsenal as well as United.
West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes has hinted at a potential desire to join Manchester United. When asked about his preferred footballing era, Fernandes responded with “Cristiano [Ronaldo] in Manchester,” praising the club during Ronaldo’s time there. The Portugal international is a reported target for United this summer and is expected to leave West Ham, regardless of their final league position.
United are also continuing to monitor Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand, as reported by CaughtOffside. The midfielder was previously a target for former manager Ruben Amorim, but Sporting resisted a sale last year. They are now expected to be more amenable to offers in the region of €60 million, with Arsenal also expressing interest.
Regarding current loanee Marcus Rashford, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has indicated that a final decision on exercising the €30 million purchase option will be made after the season concludes. Reports suggest Barcelona are attempting to renegotiate the deal, while Manchester United are insistent on the clause being triggered, creating a potential stalemate. Finally, the club is preparing for Elliot Anderson to potentially join Manchester City, and are exploring alternatives such as Ederson and Mateus Fernandes.
