Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Spain international winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna for a fee of £34.7m (€40m, $46m), according to reports from James Pearce of The Athletic. The transfer sees Munoz join the Anfield club on a six-year contract, turning down interest from Newcastle United in the process.
Munoz enjoyed a successful season with Osasuna, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 37 appearances, earning him a place in Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. The move represents the first significant signing under new manager Andoni Iraola, bolstering the team’s attacking options following the departure of Mohamed Salah.
Initial reports suggested the deal included a buy-back clause for Real Madrid, who retain 50% of Munoz’s economic rights. However, Pearce clarifies that Real Madrid do not have a clause to automatically re-sign the 22-year-old. Instead, Los Blancos retain the right to match any future offer Liverpool may receive for the player should the club decide to sell. Real Madrid reportedly considered activating their existing €8million (£6.9m, $9.3m) buy-back option from Osasuna this summer but ultimately decided against it.
Liverpool have agreed to pay the transfer fee to Osasuna in two installments, a somewhat unusual arrangement that may have helped them secure the deal ahead of Newcastle. The club is also reportedly pursuing Yan Diomande, but Munoz’s arrival provides Iraola with a wealth of options in wide areas, alongside Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha, and Federico Chiesa. There is speculation that Chiesa may depart Anfield this summer as he seeks regular playing time. The versatility of Munoz, who can play on both wings and as a centre-forward, is seen as a key asset.
Liverpool are also keen to tie down Rio Ngumoha to a new contract, dismissing any interest from Bayern Munich. The addition of Munoz strengthens Liverpool’s attacking line and provides Iraola with a dynamic player capable of contributing goals and assists.
