Liverpool are expected to compete with Arsenal for the signature of West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville this summer, according to reports from Voetbal International via Soccer News. The 24-year-old is one of three players anticipated to depart West Ham following their relegation to the Championship.
Summerville enjoyed a productive spell with Leeds United in the 2023-24 season, earning the Championship Player of the Year award. Despite a strong start to his Premier League campaign with West Ham, scoring in four consecutive games between January and February, his goalscoring form waned considerably for the remainder of the season, finding the net only once more. This dip in form occurred within a broader context of underperformance from the West Ham squad as a whole, contributing to their eventual relegation.
Suleyman Ozturk of Voetbal International suggests that Summerville is ‘absolutely going to join another Premier League club’ and anticipates a ‘fight’ between Liverpool and Arsenal for his services. West Ham are believed to be seeking a fee of around £35 million for the Dutchman, a price tag that could represent good value if either club can restore him to his peak form. There has also been speculation, reported by the same source, that Barcelona’s Raphinha might recommend Summerville to the Catalan club, though Barcelona are currently prioritizing other attacking targets.
The potential exit of Summerville is part of a wider expected clear-out at West Ham, with Mateus Fernandes and Jarrod Bowen also tipped to leave. Fernandes has attracted interest from Manchester United with an £80 million price tag, while Liverpool have long-term interest in Bowen. Liverpool are currently assessing options for strengthening their forward line, particularly with the potential departure of Mohamed Salah and the need for versatile cover for Hugo Ekitike. While Summerville is considered a candidate, questions remain about whether he possesses the quality to significantly improve Liverpool’s attack. Arsenal are also seeking a left-sided attacker, but Summerville may not represent a clear upgrade on their current options.
