Liverpool have entered the race to sign Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, potentially complicating Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of the 28-year-old, according to reports in the Italian media. The development comes as Tottenham consider offloading current goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario during the summer transfer window.
Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly a keen admirer of Di Gregorio, viewing him as an ideal addition to his squad. However, TuttoSport reports that Di Gregorio himself is not enthusiastic about a move to North London. This reluctance has opened the door for Liverpool to express their interest.
A potential swap deal involving Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Di Gregorio has been suggested, with Juventus reportedly making an offer for the Brazilian shot-stopper. Graeme Bailey, a transfer insider for TEAMtalk, reported in April that such an exchange could be a viable option. Alisson, currently one of Liverpool’s key players and the most expensive Brazilian goalkeeper in history, has been the subject of speculation regarding his future.
La Gazzetta dello Sport indicates that Liverpool have ‘enquired’ about Di Gregorio as they assess potential replacements for Alisson. The report suggests Juventus are preparing for a change in goal, with Alisson identified as their primary target. While Di Gregorio has not fully convinced the Juventus management, several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, have shown interest in his services.
Despite the interest in Di Gregorio, sources indicate that Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez remains Liverpool’s top goalkeeper target. The Reds ‘highly admire’ Martinez, whose leadership, mentality, and experience are considered valuable assets. Martinez was previously linked with a move to Manchester United last summer and could be available at the end of the current season. Liverpool are seeking an experienced goalkeeper capable of stepping in immediately should Alisson depart.
The pursuit of Martinez highlights Liverpool’s desire for a proven performer, although the possibility of a deal for Di Gregorio remains open, particularly if a swap arrangement with Juventus can be negotiated.
