Liverpool are continuing their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola in addition to RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Merseyside club, now under the management of Andoni Iraola, are preparing for a significant squad rebuild following a disappointing season that led to the dismissal of Arne Slot.
Liverpool have already had a €100 million offer for Diomande rejected, and are expected to submit a second, increased bid this week. Romano reports that the club is working to convince the player with a strong financial proposal, while Leipzig are keen to retain him and offer a new contract. However, Liverpool are simultaneously holding internal discussions regarding Barcola, who was a target last summer but a move proved unfeasible at the time.
Romano stated that Liverpool “love Barcola” and would be prepared to make a move if PSG were open to a sale. The 80 million-rated Barcola offers Iraola another option in wide areas as he looks to implement a more dynamic and high-tempo style of play. The Spaniard is aiming to recapture the ‘Heavy Metal’ football that characterized the early years of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure.
To finance these potential acquisitions, Liverpool are anticipating departures. Federico Chiesa is likely to return to Italy after failing to establish himself during his two seasons at Anfield. Furthermore, another winger could also be sold, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly prepared to offer a significant five-year contract to a Liverpool attacker. Midfielder Curtis Jones is also subject to interest, although a second bid from Inter Milan has been rejected, with Liverpool holding firm on their valuation of the player. Securing both Diomande and Barcola would represent a substantial investment in attacking talent for Iraola’s new-look Liverpool side.
