Liverpool register interest in Hoffenheim's Bazoumana Touré
Liverpool have formally notified TSG Hoffenheim of their interest in signing winger Bazoumana Touré, according to a report from Sky Germany. The Premier League club have made their initial approach for the 22-year-old, who is under contract with the Bundesliga side until 2029. Hoffenheim's managing director for sport, Andreas Schicker, has acknowledged the growing interest in the player and suggested the club could command a record fee for his services.
Schicker recently told Sky Germany that Touré has developed impressively since arriving from Swedish side Malmö FF a year and a half ago. The executive highlighted the player's consistent performances, stating, "You can clearly see, week after week, the qualities he brings." He added that any serious interest would have to be "at a level that may not have been seen before at Hoffenheim," a clear reference to the club's existing transfer record.
That record is currently held by Brazilian midfielder Joelinton, who joined Newcastle United in the summer of 2019 for a fee reported to be €43.5 million. Touré's contract does not contain a release clause, giving Hoffenheim significant negotiating power. The Ivorian winger has become a key figure for the German club, with his direct running, dribbling ability, and goal contributions attracting attention from several top European sides.
For Liverpool, the interest in Touré aligns with a potential long-term strategy to refresh their attacking options. The club's forward line has seen significant investment in recent years, but with Mohamed Salah now in his thirties, identifying a successor on the right flank is a logical priority. Touré's profile as a left-footed player who primarily operates on the right wing fits a specific tactical need at Anfield.
The move represents a significant opportunity for Touré to make a leap to one of Europe's most consistently competitive clubs. His rapid ascent from Allsvenskan to the Bundesliga and now to the radar of a club like Liverpool underscores his rapid development. For Hoffenheim, a sale at or above their record fee would provide substantial funds to reinvest in their squad, continuing their model of developing and selling talent.
While this initial contact is a significant step, the report indicates negotiations are at a very early stage. No formal offer has been detailed, and the structure of any potential deal remains unknown. Liverpool's interest must now be followed by concrete negotiations to test Hoffenheim's valuation of a player they are under no immediate pressure to sell.
