Liverpool are drawing up plans to replace Alisson Becker, with the Brazilian goalkeeper nearing a €15 million move to Juventus. The 31-year-old has agreed to a three-year deal with the Serie A club, and a transfer is contingent on Liverpool and Juventus reaching an agreement on a fee.
Alisson has been a mainstay in Liverpool’s goal for eight seasons, but his departure appears increasingly likely as Arne Slot prepares for his first season as manager. According to ESPN (via Yahoo), Liverpool have identified a shortlist of five potential replacements, including both established names and emerging talents.
Among the external options being considered are Lucas Chevalier of Paris Saint-Germain, who has fallen out of favour following the arrival of Matey Safanov, and Aston Villa’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Martinez has previously been linked with moves away from Villa Park, and a switch to Anfield could appeal to the Argentinian.
Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen and Bournemouth’s Djordje Petrovic are also on Liverpool’s radar, representing potential long-term solutions. The club are also evaluating the possibility of promoting current backup goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Mamardashvili joined Liverpool from Valencia in 2024 for a fee of €30 million, intended to eventually succeed Alisson. However, despite making 18 appearances this season, questions remain about whether the 25-year-old Georgian international is ready to become the number one. He has conceded 29 goals in 1532 minutes played, keeping only three clean sheets across all competitions.
Data analysis from SciSports suggests that goalkeeping is an area of weakness for Liverpool, with Alisson ranking only 15th in the squad according to their metrics. This analysis reinforces the need for Liverpool to invest in a suitable replacement should Alisson depart. Selling Alisson, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €14.9m, could free up funds for a significant investment in the goalkeeping position.
