Liverpool have expressed interest in signing Almeria midfielder Sergio Arribas, a move that would financially benefit Real Madrid, according to a report from Ideal. The potential transfer comes as Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola seeks to bolster his squad following two confirmed signings this summer: French defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £60million and Spain international winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna.
Liverpool’s owner, Fenway Sports Group, are reportedly looking for a replacement for Mohamed Salah, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola identified as a primary target. The addition of Arribas would further strengthen their attacking options. The 24-year-old has impressed in Spain, scoring 26 goals and providing seven assists in 47 matches across all competitions for Almeria during the 2025/26 campaign, helping them secure a third-place finish in the Segunda Division.
Arribas progressed through Real Madrid’s youth system, making 14 first-team appearances and scoring once. When he moved to Almeria in the summer of 2023, Madrid included a 50 percent sell-on clause, anticipating a future transfer and a financial return. This clause means that Real Madrid will receive a significant portion of any fee Liverpool pay for the player.
This structure mirrors a similar deal struck when Munoz joined Liverpool from Osasuna earlier this summer. Liverpool triggered Munoz’s €40 million release clause, resulting in a €20 million payment to Real Madrid, who had previously inserted a 50 percent sell-on clause when selling Munoz to Osasuna in 2025. The potential Arribas deal highlights Madrid’s shrewd transfer policy of retaining economic rights to youth academy graduates. Should Liverpool proceed with a bid for Arribas, Real Madrid are poised to profit considerably from the transaction, further bolstering their transfer funds under new manager Jose Mourinho.
Arribas has totalled 44 goals and 16 assists in 129 appearances for Almeria since joining the club. His consistent performances have established him as a key player in the Spanish second tier.
